How to weave macrame?
Before understanding how to weave a macrame and how to master this technique, it is necessary to understand what constitutes a macrame. Translated from Arabic, macrame means fringe, lace. This is an artistic form of technology that uses knot weaving. You can use different materials in the process of creating macrame. The most popular are: linen thread, leather cords, vegetable fiber, fabric strips, fishing line, twine, as well as all sorts of threads. But first you need to decide on the subject, and then choose the material for the work.
For macrame it is best to use pliable and durable materials. For a clear picture, you need to twist tightly the selected material. It should also be noted that it is much easier to weave a product from round ropes than from flat ones. Yes, and the appearance will be much more beautiful in this case. Using the knots, you can lengthen the thread in the process of weaving. Do not forget about the color of your product, because it is the color that forms the impression of the thing.
For weaving macrame we need
- metal spokes
On the Internet you can easily find examples of macrame, diagrams, as well as instructions for weaving a particular product. We will tell you about the general macrame weaving technique for beginners.
As a rule, in the weaving of macrame use light colors, however, if it is good to pick up bright colors, the product will be no less beautiful. First we need to boil and wash the material. This is done so that it does not deform in the process of weaving.
You can make a special pad that will be used for work. To do this, take a plywood board. Its size should be no less than 30 * 45 cm. Wrap our pillow with foam rubber and fasten it with several stitches. Then we need to cover the resulting billet with a thick cloth. It is highly desirable to choose a light shade of fabric. Initially, you can use the backrest from your gently chair as a working cushion.
It is important to remember that the basic principle of macrame are knots. It is from them that beautiful and peculiar things come out later. In the art of macrame you can count more than a hundred kinds of knots, but we will focus on the main and most important ones.Linen or cotton yarn, plain paper rope or hemp twine - this is what we will use as a thread for weaving.
First, we need to strengthen the support on which we will weave. We take a pillow and fix it, for example, on the back of any chair. To do this, we need to tightly tie our pillow with a rope vertically. Next, hang the thread on the support. We take a working thread and fold it in half. Then loop down under the thread, which is tied on a pillow. Now we stretch both ends of our thread and tighten them.
Technique macrame is very difficult to master, it is necessary to learn how to weave basic knots. Take, for example, a simple node. After our thread was hung on a support, we had two of its ends - two separate threads. The right one is working and the left one is the main one. We impose our working thread on the support and start a loop right behind it. We have a simple knot. Now we try alternately weave the main, then the working threads. As a result, we will have a chain, which is one of the main weaves of any macrame.
Hercules node is the main node of macrame. To make it, you need to vertically put two threads. We wind up the right one under the left thread, and then draw the left one upwards and into the loop, which we did. Gently tighten the knot.
For a flat knot, choose the vertical arrangement of the threads on the pillow. We take the right thread, put it on the base, then we start it under our left (working) thread. With the other hand, the left working thread is taken, which needs to be made as a base, through the loop formed between the right thread and the base. Holding the non-working threads, we tighten the knot using the working threads.
Having fastened two threads on the base, we tie the first flat knot and immediately the second. As a result - we will have a square flat knot, which will be finished after a small lock appears during its weaving.
So, we have mastered the basic macrame nodes. Now you can try to weave simple products: multi-colored belt, pendant, which is decorated with additional beads or macrame bracelets. Let's try to make your own bracelet. For this we need:
- paper clips
- waxed cord
We take waxed cord (at least six meters) and we strip it into 7 parts. Then you need to knot it and attach it to any book or board, on which we will weave. Then you need to take the three leftmost threads, we begin weaving a square flat knot. We repeat this sequence five times, and after that we do the same with the three rightmost threads. And on the free middle thread, we will string the beads.
Next we need to weave a square flat knot five times, and for this we will use three middle threads. And we begin to knit alternately to the length we need. Now with the help of a knot we fix the middle thread on which the beads are located. The same is done with the first bead. Do not forget to monitor the number of knots you knit - it should be the same and equal to five.
Tying a knot at the ends of our threads, you need to fold them together. Now take another piece of waxed cord and tie them to our folded yarn. After that, you need to secure them with a regular knot. We weave for them a square flat knot, thereby fastening all the middle threads of our bracelet.Next, you need to hide the tails of this attachment under the braid and hook them inside. As a result, we have a mount that can adjust the width of the product. We proceed to the design of the seven remaining threads. Each side has one free thread on which we will string the beads. Having fixed the rest of the threads with the usual knot, you need to tie them in pairs using the Capuchin knot: folding the pair of threads into a loop, you need to twist the ends of the yarn over this loop and thread them into it. After that, do not forget to tighten the knot. We cut all the excess and our bracelet is completely ready!
From the numerous combinations of macrame knots, you can make a variety of patterns. For example, the pattern "flower", "berry", and "chameleon" are made of two separate threads. And for the "lattice" and "chess" use six to eight strands. Any product will look great if it is made in several different patterns. For illustrative examples, you can search for photos of macrame patterns on the Internet. And choosing the one you like, you can begin to weave it.
