Is it possible to baptize without a godfather?

According to Orthodox traditions, every child must have a godparent of the same sex, that is, a girl has a girl, and a boy has a man. The cross of the second sex may be present or absent at the request of the parents. If for some good reason the parents have a question whether it is possible to baptize without a godfather, then it must be solved directly with the priest who performs the ceremony. Sometimes the names of the godparents follow the words of the parents of the baby, and sometimes the priest insists on the obligatory presence of the recipients. In some cases, the priest himself can become a godfather.

But, of course, there are emergency situations when it is necessary to baptize a child very urgently, for example, when there is a situation that poses a serious threat to the life of a baby. In such a case, any person who is an Orthodox Christian can baptize him with a priest, and the godparents are optional.
